NEW GLOUCESTER — A New Gloucester man was taken to an area hospital after crashing his motorcycle into a utility pole.
Trooper Joseph Bureau of the Maine State Police said the crash occurred about 2:45 p.m. on Town Farm Road in New Gloucester. Bureau said Gregory Steinbrecher, 20, was driving his motorcycle at an unsafe speed on the secondary road off Route 100 when he lost control, hit a utility pole and then slid more than 100 feet on gravel.
Bureau said he will be reconstructing the crash scene in order to determine Steinbrecher’s speed at the time of the crash. He said Steinbrecher was wearing a helmet and that most of his injuries were related to road rash from sliding on the gravel, as he was wearing a short-sleeve shirt.
Bureau said charges are pending in the crash. Steinbrecher was listed in fair condition Sunday night at Central Maine Medical Center.
