LEWISTON — Paul Tyler Cavanaugh passed away May 25 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1933, in Stoneham, Mass. His parents were Peter J. Cavanaugh and Anne K. (Carrigan) Cavanaugh.

He married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia A. McCarron on Oct. 19, 1957, at St. Columbkill’s Church in Brighton, Mass. They settled in Dedham, Mass.

He attended Wentworth Institute and worked as a self-employed locksmith. In 1996, he moved to Hartford.

He loved his grandchildren, his dogs, Irish music, Maine, reading non-fiction books and collecting interesting quotations, which he typed onto cards and gave to those around him. He will always be remembered typing on his manual typewriter and bringing home injured animals in need of care.

Paul was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Peter Cavanaugh; and sister, Elaine B’Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia of Hartford; his daughter, Colleen Swanson and her husband, Harley, of Hartford, their children, Harley, Marjorie and Miranda Swanson; daughter Maureen Amato, and her husband, Michael, of Quincy, Mass., and their children Derek, Alicia and Erica Amato; and his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send our heartfelt thanks to the staff at D’Youville Pavilion for their excellent care these last three years.

He will surely be missed.
