SARASOTA, Fla.— Barbara D. Snowe, wife of G. Carlton Snowe, who survives, passed away Jan. 16, at the Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota.

Barbara was the daughter of Harry A. and Gladys (Towle) Dillingham. She was married to Mr. Snowe 72 years ago in Auburn and for the past 50 years, she has spent her winters in Sarasota, Fla., and summers in Maine.

Her life consisted of a lot of volunteer work with the hospitals and other organizations. She served as president of the Women’s Hospital Association in Lewiston. In 1966, she opened the Old Tavern Shops in Litchfield, dealing in decorative accessories, antiques and gifts of all sorts. This was a very pleasant and important part of her life, until she closed the shop in 1976. For the next five years, she made her home at Barter’s Island in the Boothbay area of Maine, returning to Auburn after that.

She is survived by her husband; daughter, Gretchen Snowe Bly and her husband, Chuck Bly, of Osprey, Fla.; along with a daughter-in-law, Olympia Snowe and her husband, Jock McKernan; five grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Peter T. Snowe in 1973; as well as two sisters, Virginia E. Dillingham and Beverly Allen; and a brother, John H. Dillingham.
