DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — A Rockwood man accused of brutally assaulting a woman in Greenville in April has been formally charged in the case.

John “Cheeto” Johnson, 42, was indicted by the Piscataquis County grand jury on Thursday morning. He is charged with Class A gross sexual assault and Class B aggravated assault.

Seven other people also were indicted by the grand jury.

According to a police affidavit, Johnson was at West Cove Tavern in Greenville Junction on the evening of April 24. The 58-year-old female victim also was there watching a hockey game.

The victim, who barely knew Johnson, agreed to give him a ride to his house.

She told police that she stopped at a local garage where Johnson had been staying in a trailer out back. As she was about to leave, she said Johnson told her, “You’re not going anywhere.”
