Canadian singer-songwriter Dave Gunning will take the stage at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage and Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts in Unity on June 20 and 21, respectively.

CARTHAGE — New England Celtic Arts in partnership with Kingfield POPS will present Dave Gunning in concert at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, June 20.

The Nova Scotia born and bred singer-songwriter and working-class hero will also perform at Unity College Centre for the Performing Arts in Unity on Thursday,  June 21. 

Gunning broke onto the East Coast music scene in Canada in 1997. His songs include flavors of Irish, Scottish, Acadian, folk and country musical styles.

Known for the personal connection his music engenders, Gunning has nine CDs to his credit. His  latest award-winning recording project, “… a tribute to John Allan Cameron,” won a 2012 Juno Award nomination (Canada’s Grammy equivalent) for Roots & Traditional Solo Album of the Year.

Gunning won two 2011 East Coast Music Awards and two Canadian Folk Music Awards, and has been awarded six ECMAs since 2003. He won the Indie International Song Contest (for his song, “Hard Workin’ Hands, co-written with Ron Hynes) and was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest, the USA Songwriting Competition, the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the International Songwriting Contest.

A seasoned performer and entertainer, he has toured extensively, both solo and with his band, performing to sold-out venues, festivals, house concerts and theaters throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Denmark and recently in Afghanistan, entertaining U.S. troops. 

Curtain is 7 p.m. at Skye, 7:30 p.m. at UCCPA. A jam session when attendees can play their instruments with Gunning for a few minutes is slated one hour before show. Skye is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and Route 2 in Carthage.
