AUBURN — Merrick L. Chadbourne, 14, a resident of North Auburn Road, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 6, at his home.

Beloved son and brother born in Danville, Va., March 4, 1998, the son of Miles Smith and wife and mother, Melinda Chadbourne.

Merrick was an honor roll student at Auburn Middle School, and was just completing the eighth-grade. He loved history, current events and had a strong patriotic spirit. Merrick was a member of both the nordic and alpine ski teams at Auburn Middle School. Merrick was ranked 12th in the state of Maine Class A Ski Meister during the 2012 ski season. He was also a member of the Lost Valley Race Club.

Merrick was a member of the Auburn Middle School Band and Jazz Band playing percussion. As a member of St. Philip’s Church, he also participated musically in the church choir. He also played the piano.

Those who knew Merrick, best loved his quirky sense of humor. Merrick loved to cook and often expressed that he would become a chef. He loved taking his dog Mojo for long walks.

Besides his parents of Auburn, his survivors include one brother, Marshall Chadbourne and one sister, Miranda Chadbourne, both of Auburn; a paternal grandmother, Naoma Smith of Fort Worth, Texas.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Hiram Smith; and maternal grandparents, Donald and Marilyn (Downing) Chadbourne.
