FARMINGTON — A retirement gathering to honor and celebrate Theodora J. Kalikow’s tenure as president of the University of Maine at Farmington takes place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June, 14, at Emery Community Arts Center.

University officials are hoping members of the public will join them in wishing “Theo” a happy retirement, while sharing some light refreshments and fond memories of her dedicated 18 years of exemplary service to UMF, the community and the state of Maine. No gifts please.

Speakers joining the celebration will include: Carlene Tremblay, representing U.S. Sen. Susan Collins; Tom Saviello, Maine state senator; Bonnie Newsom, member of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees; Dick Davis, Farmington town manager; Nancy Marshall, president of the UMF Board of Visitors and Sven Bartholomew, president of the UMF Alumni Council.

Kalikow, UMF’s 13th president, has served since 1994. She is the longest-serving UMF president since the Farmington school became a four-year college in 1945 and the third-longest serving chief administrator of the western Maine institution in its nearly 150-year history. A visionary leader, she has put student success first and foremost during her presidency and guided UMF to emerge as a nationally-recognized model of educational effectiveness.
