SKOWHEGAN — A jury has cleared a Maine landlord of responsibility in a lead paint lawsuit, reports the Kennebec Journal.

Paula Bratton and Daniel Hills claimed their now 6-year-old son suffers from behavioral and learning issues as a result of lead paint poisoning he suffered in a home the family had rented in Solon.

A Somerset County Superior Court jury decided on Tuesday that Halsey McDonough was not negligent in the case.

McDonough’s lawyer, Martica Douglas, said while lead paint was present in the home, there was no evidence it caused the boy’s problems.

A pediatrician and a specialist with the Maine Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program said in 2009 that the boy, who was 3 at the time, had lead poisoning.

Bratton’s lawyer told the Kennebec Journal the verdict may be appealed.
