OXFORD —  The Oxford Hills Reading is Fundamental Programs celebrated another successful read-a-thon for SAD 17 students in grades K-6 by raising more than $13,000. An ice cream social was held to recognize this year’s outstanding read-a-thon participants. One hundred eight students were invited for either raising $50 or more or being a top-place reader within the district. This is the largest number invited in many years.

Awards were given for top pledges and readers within the district. Top readers for grades K to three: first, Amber Perrin, Oxford School; second, Tayanita McAllister, Oxford; third, Trinity Anne Bernard, Rowe. Top readers for grades four to six: first, Jade Keene, Rowe; second, Rylee Hart, Rowe; third, Zack Wilson, Paris. Top pledges for grades K through three: first, Kolby Brown, Rowe; second, Ayden Figueroa, West Paris; third, Molly Kimball, Rowe. Top pledges for grades four through six: Sam Morton, Rowe; second, Jade Keene, Rowe; third, Jessica Bickford, Oxford.

The RIF Program provides three free books for students K-six district wide a year, totalling 6,000 books. A grant and participation in the read-a-thon makes this possible. Each school relies on volunteers to hand out books three times a year.
