This is regarding the hockey arena that is proposed for Auburn.

I understand that a good portion of the bill for that project will fall on the homeowners of Auburn. I remind everyone what happened to the town of Old Orchard Beach when the town financed a baseball field. That endeavor failed and the homeowners of Old Orchard were stuck with the bill for a decade or more.

The failure resulted in a vacant baseball field that was vandalized and abandoned for years. Taxes needed to be raised on the homeowners to pay the bill to cover the town’s financial obligation to the project.

Beware, the devil is in the details.

I encourage Auburn officials to consult with those in Old Orchard Beach before committing Auburn to the liability.

Lewiston’s hockey facility should be good enough for the L/A area.
