LEWISTON — A local man was arrested Thursday morning and charged in the Wednesday evening stabbing of a Bartlett Street man in his apartment. Police said the victim was struck in the chest with a long barbecue fork.

Tony E. Leonard, 43, of 88 Bartlett St. was charged with elevated aggravated assault at 11:30 a.m. and taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.

Vincent Turner, 41, was in listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Thursday morning.

“I don’t know how deep it went, but it did scrape his aorta,” Lt. Michael McGonagle said.

Police discovered Turner on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. at 88 Bartlett St. after a man reported coming home to find his roommate bleeding and unresponsive.

The scene of the stabbing is a three-story apartment house near the corner of Bartlett and Pine streets. Several people outside said they had no idea what had transpired. One woman who lives nearby said police are no strangers to the apartment building at 88 Bartlett St.

“The police are there all the time,” the woman told a reporter Wednesday night. “This place has been trouble.”
