Cans for a Cure drive

DIXFIELD — From Wednesday, Oct. 10, through Friday, Oct. 12, T.W. Kelly Dirigo Middle School will be hosting a bottle drive in conjunction with the radio station Q97.9. Each year this radio station holds an event called Cans for a Cure at which they collect returnable cans and bottles. Their goal this year is to collect 500,000 empty cans and bottles, which equals $25,000. All of this money will be going towards Cancer research in Maine.

Wednesday through Friday, students in grades six through eight will be staffing a table at the front entrance of the school to accept donations of returnables. The table will be staffed on Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone who is unable to drop returnables off at the school, but would still like to donate, may call the school to arrange for pick-up. The school is also collecting money that will then be converted to cans. For example, $10 equals 200 cans. The school goal is to collect the equivalent of 6000 cans. All proceeds collected will be given to Q97.9 and will be added to their total.
