NEW SHARON — The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and its partners will hold opening celebrations at two new boat launches on the Sandy River on Friday, Oct. 12.
The first event will begin at 1 p.m. at the Farmington Falls put-in site adjacent to Route 2 at the New Sharon/Farmington town line, Leon E. Bucher, federal aid coordinator/chief planner for the department, said Wednesday morning in a news release.
The second celebration will follow at the Muddy Brook takeout site, which is also accessed by Route 2.
Boucher said state wildlife Commissioner Chandler Woodcock and retired fisheries biologist Forrest Bonney, along with others, will be present. The public is invited.
Robert VanRiper, state regional fishery biologist in the Rangeley Lakes Region, said last month that while there are only 2.5 road miles between the launch sites, there are almost 5 river miles.
