PARIS — The 12th annual Basics of Alcoholism and Addictions Conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the First Congregational Church in South Paris.

Alcoholism and drug addiction are major problems in the area. Awareness, prevention and options for treatment and recovery are key to decreasing the affects of addiction on families and communities.

Featured presenters this year include addiction specialist Dr. Mark Publicker, president of Northern New England Society of Addiction Medicine, who will speak on addiction and the brain; Stephen Andrew, clinician and motivational interview expert; and Zane Loper, a drug enforcement agent who will speak on “A View from the Cruiser.” A session on recovery options in Oxford County will also be held.

This event has sold out the past three years and has been extended by one hour for 2012. The cost is $12 and scholarships are available. The fee includes food and coffee for the day. To assure a seat call Common Ground Counseling to register soon, 739-2644.
