WATERFORD – Saturday’s meeting of the Western Maine chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine will focus on cutting hardwood logs for grade.

The 9 a.m. program will be held at the sawmill of chapter President Bill Haynes and feature a demonstration of how a log buyer sizes up a long hardwood log on the landing and determines where cuts should be made to maximize quality. Leading the demonstration will be New England Forest Products owner Kenny Larrabee and West Paris yard operator Bob Morin.

Handling the log truck and chain sawing duties will be Tom Richards and son, Cam.

The sawmill is on Sweden Road, three-quarters of a mile from routes 35/37 in South Waterford, or five miles from the Route 93 intersection in Sweden. Coffee and doughnuts will be available at 8:30 a.m.

The education session is free and open to everyone. For further information, contact Bill Haynes at 583-2963 (forest@maine.com) or Merle Ring at 441-3276.
