PARIS — On Saturday, Oct. 20, a collaborative of farmers from the community market known as the Fox School Farmers Market will join together to form the Paris Winter Farmers Market. This quick stop and shop market will be held each Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. through Dec. 22, at the Oxford County Extension Office, part of the University of Maine System, which is located just off Route 26 at 9 Olson Road.

Barbara Murphy, extension educator, says “Cooperative Extension is pleased to host the new winter market at its office. We think it is a great opportunity to support the local economy by partnering with growers to provide high quality, locally produced goods.”

The collaborative of vendors include Harvest Moon Produce of West Paris who will have their trademark organically grown greens, winter squash, onions and shallots; Meadow Ridge Perennial Farm of Hebron who will have fresh and dried flowers, twig wreaths, their handmade holiday wreaths and other balsam products; Thunder Hill Farm of Waterford will have their grass fed beef, pork and chicken, eggs and value added products such as jerky, meatballs and hamburg patties; McAllister Farm of Waterford will have pasture raised eggs, pork, chicken and garden vegetables; and Streaked Mountain Herbs & Crafts will have herbal teas and other herbal products for wellness needs and many unique Christmas gift ideas.

Local farmers are working collectively to bring this community as many local choices as possible going into the fall and winter season. To further this goal, each of the farmers will purchase products for resale at the market from other local farmers. Harvest Moon Produce will offer cereals from Fiddlers Green Farm and honey from Happy Hive Honey; McAllister Farm will carry cranberries from Woodward Cranberry Farm and goat cheese from Tourmaline Hill Farm; Thunder Hill Farm will carry fresh breads from Rising Sun Bakery & Cafe along with some baked products of their own; Meadow Ridge Perennials will provide fresh apple cider from Hemingway Orchard and apples from Valley View Orchards; and Streaked Mountain Herbs will produce fresh apple sauce using Valley View Orchards’ apples.
