PARIS — A New Gloucester man who police say damaged the inside of a police car Sunday was released Monday on $250 cash bail.

Gary J. Peaslee, 25, of 27 Jack Hall Road, was arrested Sunday on Route 232 in Rumford on charges of violation of protective order, aggravated criminal mischief, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and disorderly conduct.

According to a report by Trooper Jason Wing of the Maine State Police, Wing pulled Peaslee over when he saw a shotgun in the backseat. He learned that a protective order barred Peaslee from possession a gun.

Wing arrested Peaslee, who became angry and kicked in Wing’s heating vent and passenger side airbag panel, the report said, leading to the aggravated criminal mischief charge. Wing wrote that Peaslee yelled and swore at him, leading to the disorderly conduct charge.

Peaslee was released on bail Monday afternoon. His arraignment is set for Jan. 7.
