LEWISTON — The 6th annual Alive in Lewiston Celebration will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the historic Wallace School Building, home to the Nutrition Center, at 208 Bates St.

The event will feature a delicious home-style meal featuring local and seasonally inspired ingredients, live Americana music from some of Maine’s best musicians and a space covered with wall to wall community inspired art.

Alive in Lewiston supports the community gardening, food access and cooking and nutrition projects of Lots to Gardens and the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center. This year’s event will also honor Food Day, a nationwide celebration and movement for healthy, affordable and sustainable food and the “Bring Health Back” youth campaign. 

Featured local musicians for the evening include Greg and Jessie Boardman and the Burnt Beard Band. Greg and Jessie Boardman are a duo from Lewiston best known for their heartfelt and authentic renditions of folk music from New England and the Maritime Provinces. They play with a host of various folk instruments including fiddles, viola, cello, guitar, pump organ and voice. The Burnt Beard Band have a musical style that can be best described as “old timey, Americana, bluegrass” however, they also delve into jazz, folk, reggae, funk, blues and soul provided by their eclectic array of instruments including a six string banjo, standup bass and acoustic guitar.

A multi-course menu will include hardy winter stews, wood-fired breads and handcrafted pestos and spreads. Menu highlights include roasted garlic beet soup, ginger-maple glazed carrots and pumpkin bread pudding with apple cider glaze. All items will feature locally grown produce from close-by farms and community gardens. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options will be available.
