AUBURN — UU Theater will present a tribute to 90-year-old poet Pearl Sawyer on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4.

The performance, “Pearl Sawyer: Poet in Residence,” celebrates her work, which includes nine books of poetry.

Sawyer said she wants the theater actors to find themselves in her works, rather than “look for her” in the poems.

Sawyer began dabbling in poetry while at Goddard College in Vermont, but put it aside to raise four children. She was widowed while in her 30s.

She wrote a local column in the 1950s, but it wasn’t until she retired 20 years ago that she turned her attention to her craft.

“Pearl Sawyer: Poet in Residence” cast members include Paulette Bruneau, Kitsie Claxton, Bill Eldridge, Ell Fanus, Pat Gardiner, Mike & Toby Giasson, Janet Gibson, Patricia Griffin, Stephanie Hughes, Karen Lane, Charlotte Lehmann, Mary-Atala Lessard, Krista Lord, Bets Mallette, Charles Nero, Maureen Perry, Bonnie Soper, Ron Spofford, Esther Tucker, Judy Webber, and Dick and Naomi York. The show is directed by Toby Haber and Karen Lane.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 and 1 p.m. Nov. 4 at the First Universalist Church of Auburn, 169 Pleasant St. (enter on Spring Street side). Tickets are $7-$10, on a sliding scale, to benefit UU Theater’s home at the church.
