PORTLAND — Maurice J. Pelletier, 89, of Lewiston, died Friday, Oct. 26, at Maine Medical Center, after a short illness.

He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, May 15, 1923, the son of the late Charles and Victoria (Michaud) Pelletier. On Oct. 23, 1948, he married the former Marie May Guerrette of Lewiston.

He was an active member and volunteer at Holy Cross Church, loved gardening and playing the fiddle with several local groups, including the Silvertones and Fiddle-icious.

He worked for many years at the Continental Mill as a textile weaver. He later worked in the local shoe industry and finally, at CMMC in housekeeping, until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife; his five children, Gerald and wife, Pauline Pelletier, of Lewiston, Anne and husband, Roland Moreau, of New Gloucester, Jeanne and husband, James Mavor, of Hebron, Russell and wife, Simone Pelletier, of Litchfield and Donald and wife, Rhonda Pelletier, of Litchfield; a brother, Denis and wife, Nancy Pelletier, of North Reading, Mass.; a sister, Therese and husband, Lawrence Saucier, of Lewiston; two sisters-in-law, Georgette Pelletier of Lewiston and Victorian Pelletier of Canada; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
