GREENWOOD — Firefighters quickly extinguished an air-compressor fire at Mt. Abram Family Resort on Thursday.
Woodstock Fire Chief Geff Inman said an air compressor used in snow-making caught fire before 6 a.m., and the fire spread to a second compressor before firefighters arrived and extinguished it. Inman said the fire was out in 10 to 15 minutes. Firefighters put down absorbent mats to soak up oil that had leaked.
The compressors were outdoors and the fire didn’t spread beyond the two machines, Inman said.
Inman and Greenwood firefighter Ray Wakefield were in charge at the scene. Greenwood Fire Chief Al Curtis was out of town. Crews from Greenwood, Woodstock and Bethel responded to the fire.
According to a news release from Mt. Abram, the compressor that caught fire was rented. The unit will be replaced Monday.
The ski resort plans to open for the season on Saturday, Dec. 15.
