LISBON — Police Chief David Brooks has announced his department has received a 2013 “Drive Sober Maine!” Impaired Driving Project grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.

The grant period begins Dec. 1 and continues through to Sept. 6, 2013. The $5,667 will be used for officer overtime to conduct OUI patrols and checkpoints.

There are two specific periods being targeted by the National Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over campaign: Dec. 14 to Jan. 2, 2013, and Aug. 16 through Sept. 2, 2013. Additional patrols will be conducted during the holiday period.

According to Chief Brooks, the department will also be conducting additional patrols throughout the year targeting impaired driving. Driving impaired remains a serious public safety concern, he said, and the Lisbon Police Department is committed to making the streets and roads safe for all who use them.
