WILTON — The Wilton Police Department is participating in a Holiday OUI Enforcement program with extra patrols planned through the beginning of the new year. There is also an operating-under-the-influence safety checkpoint planned Friday, Dec. 14, weather permitting.
There have been four fatalities in Wilton during 2012 in which drugs and alcohol were a factor, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.
Wilton Officer Chad Abbott applied for a grant through the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, which will fund the extra patrols and checkpoint.
The exact location for the checkpoints has not been determined, she said.
“We anticipate a minor inconvenience to travelers while acting to make our roads safer for everyone,” she added.
