RANGELEY — The winner of the Rangeley Friends of the Arts quilt raffle drawing held Oct. 20 was Janet Kuhn of Whiting, N.J., who visited Rangeley in August.
The RFA would like to thank Dan and Carol Perkins for the gift of the quilt. The proceeds will benefit youth in the Rangeley region.
In the fall of 2008, a group of Threads Galore Quilt Camp students joined together to create the award winning quilt, “Hunter Blue.” Campers stitched up Rapid Fire Hunter’s Star quilt blocks in shades of indigo blue and cream, using Deb Tucker’s technique. The quilting friends, from Rangeley and afar, who pieced the blocks are Sandra A. Bonomo, Jean Dufour, Judith P. Dunn, Lucy Hickey, Pauline Lang, Jean Libbey, Joanne Marzilli, Mara Novak, Carol Perkins, Helen Reynolds and Deb Tucker.
Novak, owner of Flying Goose Custom Quilting in Chester, Vt., assembled the blocks and graced the quilt with her original design, heirloom quality machine quilting in 2009. “This quilt was created in celebration of, and appreciation for, the marvelous time we’ve all had coming to Rangeley every year for Quilt Camp,” said Novak. “This is a project we could all be part of, and in the end, give something back to Rangeley.”
From the beginning, the intent of the group was to give the quilt to Dan and Carol Perkins, who would decide how to best benefit a group of their choosing in the Rangeley region. The Perkinses chose to have this gift benefit the Rangeley Friends of the Arts Student Lesson Program and the RFA Rangeley Lakes Regional School Graduating Senior Scholarship. The RFA has a long history of assisting local youth with extracurricular dance, voice, art and instrumental music lessons.
