AUBURN — Marion Dora Gayton, 84, of Poland, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, with her family at her side.

She was born in Mexico, May 7, 1928, a daughter of the late John and Doris (Sylvester) Hunt. Marion was educated in Canton, Rumford and Auburn, until she went to work to help support her family. She worked at Auburn Heel Co., Rock Maple Heel Co., Arrow Hart and Etonic Shoe until she retired.

Marion went back to school and received her GED in 1990. She was a lifetime member of The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1603, Auburn Horizon 55, Lewiston Senior Citizens, First Auburn Seniors, Robin Dow Seniors and Philippians Seniors Group.

Marion enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending swim meets, football, basketball and baseball games that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were in.

She leaves a daughter, Donna Bastien and her husband, Jerry, of North Carolina; a son, Donald Gayton and his wife, Joline, of Poland; a brother, Henry Sylvester of Peru; a sister, Cathy Carroll and husband, Fred, of Mechanic Falls; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Doris Michaud in 2001; a brother, Leo Hunt; and three half-brothers, Fred, John and Joe.

The family would like to send a very special thank you to Dr. Peter Elias and Dr. Robert Weiss for their many years of care they gave to Marion. They would also like to thank Clover Manor and the Hospice House for their exceptional care during these last few weeks.
