WILTON — Lindzee Ridley joined the Wilton Fish & Game Competition Shooting League at the age of 13. Under the supervision of league director Greg Roy, Phil Maurais and Arnold Borthwick, Lindzee learned the sport of gun handling, safety and marksmanship.
Over time she competed with the shooters of the league in the winter postal program. Scores are sent to the state for rank in positions of age groups.
Lindzee, Jared Roy and Connor Maurais participated in the nationals at Camp Perry in Ohio this past summer. The shooters represented Maine with several other shooters from the state along with their coach, Greg Roy, director of the Wilton Fish & Game Youth League, and Julian Beale III from Capital City Gun Club in Augusta.
“Each day we would wake at 5 a.m., get breakfast and head down to the range to set up,” Lindzee said. “We were placed next to the army shooters and one was a Paralympian. This was so cool to learn and see everything these guys did. We came home with many tips on technique that we can share to help improve our league members.”
Lindzee and shooters have had matches in Damariscotta as well as several in Augusta. Shooting in Augusta resulted in Lindzee receiving the Maine’s Sub-Junior Outdoors 3 Position Fifty Yard State Championship.
