JAY — A local man was injured Tuesday night after the truck he was driving hit a utility pole on Old Jay Hill Road, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Wednesday.

The accident knocked out power to most of North Jay for about three hours.

Officer Nicholas Gulliver arrested Michael Holland, 23, of Jay, on a misdemeanor charge of operating under the influence, White said.

Holland received a minor cut to his hand but refused treatment at the scene by NorthStar Emergency Medical Services ambulance personnel, he said.

Gulliver drove Holland in a police cruiser to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington where he was treated and released, and then to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.

Holland was driving south on Old Jay Hill Road, which is off Route 4, when the 2009 Ford F-250 he was driving crossed the road, hit a utility pole and rolled on its side, White said.

The accident occurred at about 6:10 p.m.

The truck was damaged beyond repair, he said. It was purchased Dec. 20, 2012, and had temporary Virginia license plates on it.

Jay firefighters assisted Gulliver with traffic control and stood by the truck while the officer took Holland to the hospital and jail, White said.

Holland was released from jail Wednesday morning on $1,500 unsecured bail, a corrections officer said.

He is scheduled to appear at Farmington District Court on Feb. 21.
