NORWAY — Stephen R. Starbird, 92, of South Paris, died Sunday, Dec. 30, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in South Paris, Aug. 24, 1920, the son of Frank L. and Gertrude Thurlow Starbird. He grew up and attended schools in South Paris. He served in the Army/Air force during World War II, spending time in England as a cook and was present in Paris, France, on Liberation Day.

On Nov. 18, 1945, he married Olga Kyllonen and they made their home on Walker Street in South Paris, before he built their home on Nichol Street in South Paris. He was a carpenter by trade, working for Phil White then L.M. Longley and Sons, where he worked until retirement. He loved woodworking and gardening, his property was his pride and joy. He was the last and youngest of eight siblings.

Stephen is survived by his wife; five children, Nancy and her husband, Frank Wood, David Starbird and his significant other, Elaine, Susan Starbird, Sylvia and her husband, George Normand and Patricia and her husband, Torrance Norsworthy; seven grandchildren, Sean, Stephen, Jennifer, Paige, Amy, Daniel and Beth; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
