Events to benefit Rich Pelletier

LEWISTON — Two upcoming events will be benefits for Sensei Rich Pelletier.

A Kids Fun Day will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. There will be games, bouncy house, face painting, karate demo, bake sale, silent auction, DJ and dancing. $5 donation per family.

A Dance 4 Life benefit with live bands, comedian and silent auction will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, Feb. 8, at the Ramada Inn, 490 Pleasant St. The cost is $15 per person in advance at Community Credit Union, Simone’s Hot Dogs or Pelletier’s Karate Academy, or $18 at the door.

Grants for nonprofits

ELLSWORTH/PORTLAND — Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that draw on the strengths of the community and foster collaboration are encouraged to apply to the Androscoggin County Fund, part of the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

A volunteer committee of Androscoggin County residents and business leaders reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding.

The deadline for applying is Feb. 15. Application and guidelines are available at www.mainecf.org.

The Androscoggin County Committee funds projects that seek to build community connections; broaden and diversify leadership and community involvement; help communities to encourage civic involvement; increase trust across lines of difference; and encourage people to do more with others rather than just for others.

N.G. Historical Society meeting

NEW GLOUCESTER — The Annual Meeting of the New Gloucester Maine Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, 389 Intervale Road, next to the Town Hall. All members are encouraged to attend.

Pre- and K registration

WINTHROP — To register your child for the 2013-14 preschool and kindergarten class, call 377-2241, ext. 101, by Feb. 15 to have your child put on the list.

Screenings will be held at a later date.

Preschool students must be 4 years old by Oct. 15. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old by Oct. 15.
