1913 – 2013

AUBURN — Gabrielle L. Gauthier, 99, formerly of 15 Howard St., Lewiston, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

She was born in Biddeford, Oct. 6, 1913, daughter of the late Archille and Alcida Blais Audette.

She was educated in Lewiston schools and was married for 45 years to Sylvio Gauthier before his passing Oct. 11, 1978. Prior to her retirement in 1976, she was employed for 30 years at Bates Manufacturing.

She was an active and longtime member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Ladies of Ste. Anne Sodality, Marchandes de Bonheur, Holy Cross Senior Citizens, Cercle du St. Sacrement and La Rencontre. She enjoyed playing cards with her group of friends, “Thursday’s Girls” who met weekly at the Dominican Convent in Sabattus and the home of her dear friend Pauline Fournier. She also did volunteer work at the convent and at St. Mary’s Hospital. She traveled the world with her sister and visited places such as Rome, Greece, Africa, the Middle East and Hawaii. She enjoyed times spent with her family and had a way of making everyone feel special.

She is survived by two daughters, Jeannine Blais of Lewiston and Cecile Corneau and husband, Wilfred, of Sabattus; two sons, Joseph Fern Gauthier of Lewiston and Gerard “Pete” Gauthier and wife, Constance, of Greene; 15 grandchildren, Denis, Lucille, Roger, Richard, Roland, Rachel and Paul Blais, Denise Bellavance, Diane Corneau, Monique Isherwood, Pauline Gauthier, Jackie Chabot, Rita Gigliotti, Linda Jones and Marc Dube; and many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Marie; a daughter, Aline Bellavance Dube; three sons-in-law, Paul Bellavance, Paul Blais and Al Dube; a sister, Therese Nadeau; and a brother, Fernand Audette.
