FARMINGTON — Selectmen remained silent Tuesday night after a second executive session with the town’s attorney to discuss the legal rights and duties of the board with respect to a personnel matter.
Following an hour and a half session behind closed doors, Chairman Stephan Bunker said no action would be taken and called for adjournment of the board.
Afterward, he would only say that the board benefited from the legal advice provided by town attorney Frank Underkuffler and they were following that advice step by step.
Employees from all departments were informed and invited to attend and show their support for whomever the topic of discussion was about. Little notice was given, Linda Grant said of the nearly 40 full-time town employees.
They can only speculate on what the sessions might be about but we’re “not comfortable,” said Diana Young, town treasurer as they waited.
“This is our workplace. We have a vested interest. The citizens have an interest,” Young said.
The board held a 45-minute executive session Jan. 8. The agenda for the meeting was revised during that day to it. No action was taken and the board offered no explanation when it returned to public session.
The board was not scheduled to meet this week. Notice of the executive session, the only business item on the agenda for the special board meeting, was announced Monday.
Concerned about who or what prompted Tuesday’s session, eight town employees attended the meeting and waited in the hall during the executive session.
