FARMINGTON — RSU 9 directors voted unanimously Tuesday to re-title the director of curriculum Leanne Condon’s position to be assistant superintendent/director of curriculum.
Superintendent Michael Cormier made the recommendation, which came from the board’s Administrator Evaluation Committee.
The board also extended Condon’s contract for one year.
The title is a more adequate reflection of what Condon has been doing over the last three years, Vice Chairwoman Monique Claverie of Farmington said.
Whenever she is needed she has stepped up, Director Claire Andrews of Farmington said.
Her job description actually contains assistant superintendent, Cormier said.
The district is in the process of finding a new superintendent to replace Cormier when he retires in June.
The district had an assistant superintendent until Susan Pratt left the district as of July 1, 2010, to become superintendent to the then SAD 36/RSU 36 in Livermore and Livermore Falls.
SAD 9/RSU 9 voters cut $109,964 from the $764,522 request for system administration in May 2010 for the proposed 2010-11 school year to eliminate the assistant superintendent position.
At the time, the board felt a similar position was needed and created a part-time director of curriculum, instruction, assessment and grants position, Cormier said prior to the meeting.
Initially, the job entailed about 203 days a year and has increased to 213 days this year, he said.
“It was recognized that the work couldn’t be done with only 203 days,” Cormier said.
He believes it is scheduled to increase again next year, he said.
This year she earns $75,280.
Condon has been in education since 1993. She is in her third year as director of curriculum for RSU 9.
Directors also voted to accept with regret the resignation of Mt. Blue High School Assistant Principal Randy Cook.
Cook who has been with the district for 42 years including as a teacher, plans to retire at the end of the school year. Cormier also informed the board that he has accepted a letter of retirement from Mardie Porter, a teacher of special needs students at the Mallett School.
In another matter, the board and administrators congratulated Mt. Blue High School teacher Doug Hodum on his selection as a 2013 Hope Street Group National Teacher Fellow.
