PORTLAND (AP) — The freezing temperatures that have been chilling the Midwest for days have arrived in Maine.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for the northern reaches of the state.

Temperatures in the Presque Isle and Caribou area are not expected to rise above seven below zero. The wind chill could make it feel 40 below.

Things aren’t much better in the Portland area where’s Wednesday’s high is forecast as eight degrees, but it will feel as low as 19 below with wind gusts of up to 25 miles per hour.

The good news is there’s not much snow in the forecast.

The weather service says temperatures have not been this low since the winter of 2009-2010.
