LISBON — Thanks to a tip, Lisbon police arrested a Bowdoinham man two weeks ago in connection with what they believe to be a theft ring responsible for stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of items from area residents and businesses. More arrests are expected.

Investigating officers Detective William Tapley and Officer Ryan McGee of the Lisbon Police Department said the thefts occurred in 2012 and 2013 in Lisbon, Brunswick, Topsham and Bowdoin. The total value of the stolen items likely exceeds $16,000.

According to a statement from Lisbon police, a tip from a “concerned citizen” led investigators to Bowdoinham, where they arrested Ian Halsey, 32, of the Post Road, on an outstanding warrant charging cultivation of marijuana. He was also summonsed for unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and three counts of receiving stolen property. Police also seized one-and-a-half pounds of marijuana.

Lisbon police and other law enforcement agencies are still investigating and expect more arrests in what they are calling a “multi-jurisdictional theft ring.”

Items stolen included a $6,000 dump trailer and a $2,000 log splitter, taken in separate thefts from Lisbon Falls. Both have been recovered and returned to the owners.

Also recovered were chain saws stolen in Bowdoin, an $800 generator from Swift Recycling in Lisbon Falls, a boat motor and winch, a $1,200 landscape trailer and a second dump trailer valued at $5,000 stolen in Brunswick.
