Tar sands oil has proven to be one of the most environmentally destructive sources of energy on the planet. In addition to habitat destruction, it is carbon intensive and increases climate change emissions by huge amounts.
Any suggested plan to pump tar sands oil through 60-year-old pipes passing through some of the most pristine areas of Western Maine has been rejected by Casco and will be voted on in Bethel on Jan. 30.
Waterford is having an informational meeting about tar sands oil on Jan. 31.
