Maine best-selling novelist Stephen King has agreed to sell his essay “Guns” on Amazon.com as a “Kindle single,” joining the national debate over guns.
Amazon.com announced Friday that King’s essay, which is considered to be too long for a magazine article and too short for a book, will be available exclusively for 99 cents in the online Kindle Store.
According to a description on the website: “From one of America’s most important writers comes a timely Kindle Single on gun violence — revealing a personal connection to our epidemic of mass shootings, and constructing an argument for what can and should be done to change our laws.”
“I think the issue of an America awash in guns is one every citizen has to think about,” King said in a statement picked up by USA Today. “If this helps provoke constructive debate, I’ve done my job. Once I finished writing ‘Guns’ I wanted it published quickly.”
USA Today quoted David Blum, editor of Kindle Singles, as saying, King “finished this essay last Friday morning, and by that night we had accepted it and scheduled for publication today.”
