Support workshop at Parkview

BRUNSWICK — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free workshop for anyone interested in offering support for youth and families. “How Can I Help? Supporting Youth and Families Impacted by Cancer” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center, 329 Maine St.

This presentation, facilitated by Tookie Bright, children’s program coordinator, is for any parent, grandparent, caregiver or community member who would like to learn more about supporting youth and families affected by cancer. There are many ways to be a source of hope and healing. Topics include the various ways children and teens are impacted, how to talk about cancer, common feelings, behaviors and warning signs that a child is not coping well, and resources that are available.

Finding relief from pain

LEWISTON — Leading orthopaedist Dr. David Wexler will present an informative discussion about treatment for osteoporosis-related spinal fractures. The free presentation will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Lepage Small Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

Free baking workshop

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free baking workshop for families. “Baking with Love” will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Ellie Stevens, Bonnie Mathieu and Tookie Bright, children’s program coordinator, invite you to bake fortune cookies with a twist. Made from scratch and with love notes, these cookies will carry important messages from the heart. Families will also have the chance to create personalized oven mitts.

Knights plan dinner, dance

LEWISTON — Knights of Columbus Councils 106, 10019 and 12652 will co-sponsor a dinner/dance on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Holy Cross Church Hall, 1080 Lisbon St.

Social hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a ham dinner from 7 to 8 and dancing with Shake Rattle and Roll from 8 to 11 p.m.

The event is BYOB. There will be a 50/50 raffle and door prize.
