FARMINGTON — Selectmen approved hiring Justin Blais, 26, of Farmington for the Police Department on Tuesday.

He will begin March 19, Chief Jack Peck told the board.

Blais is a 2010 graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington where he earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies. He worked as a reserve officer for the Old Orchard Beach Police Department in the summer of 2012.

Farmington has offered Blais an education and now employment, he told the board upon his acceptance.

Selectman Andrew Hufnagel said Blais is the son of Ted Blais, director of public safety at UMF.

After completing field training and the probationary period, he will attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Basic Police School in 2014, Peck said.
