Matt Sabasteanski, center, gives a tour of the dairy barn at Pineland Farms during the Veterans Adaptive Cross-Country Skiing Program in New Gloucester on Wednesday. Heavy overnight rainfall closed the ski trails for the 11-week program’s final day, so Sabasteanski and his wife Kristina, right of Matt, offered a tour of the 5,000-acre farm. Pineland offers various activities for veterans through VAST (Veterans Adaptive Sports and Training). About 29 veterans participated in the ski program, said Kristina Sabasteanski, a two-time Olympian biathlete. Cycling, wheelchair tennis, archery and orienteering are other activities for veterans at Pineland. “We are open to all veterans (disabled or not),” Sabasteanski said. Having a place for veterans to talk is important,” she said. “That sense of camaraderie is key.”
