1958 – 2013

HEBRON — Stephen A. Nichols, 54, of Hebron, formerly of Mexico, passed away unexpectedly, and way too soon, on March 16.

Born in Rumford, on March 29, 1958, he was a son of Gilbert and Ruperta (Kerr) Nichols. Steve grew up on Granite Street in Mexico and was a graduate of Mexico High School. He attended the University of Maine at Machias and served in the United States Army.

Steve was a self-employed carpenter and property manager. Steve loved sports of all kinds, playing on many local teams as a young man. He was a fan of the Steelers, Red Sox and Celtics, often placing friendly bets with friends, but given the choice he would rather watch a good high school game. He was really looking forward to March Madness.

Steve also loved trapping with his good friend, Mike Orf. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and trapping. Steve was a member of Rumford Falls Aerie No. 1248, FOE, Club Le Paresseux and the Sons of the American Legion.

Steve is survived by his fiancee, Vernice Brooks of Hebron; sisters, Charlene Shaw and husband, Arthur, of Mexico, Charlotte Pierce and husband, Paul, of Mexico; a brother, James Nichols and wife, Clemma, of Rumford; nephews, Joshua Shaw and Daniel Pierce; and nieces, Brianna Shaw and Heather Hodsdon. Steve had too many special friends to mention but kept up with everyone on Facebook.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Janet Newbury.
