BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox are hoping to lure fans back to Fenway Park after a subpar year by offering them free food and cut-price beer for the first month of the season.
Kids under 14 will get a free Fenway Frank, Goldfish and a juice box from certain concession areas before the third inning during April.
Hot dogs will he sold two for the price of one; hot chocolate will be cut from $4.25 to $2; and a 12-ounce beer that normally sells for up to $8.50 will go for $5.
Team chief operating officer Sam Kennedy told The Boston Globe the deals are to “thank our fans for their incredible support and commitment.”
The Red Sox are coming off a 69-93 season in which they finished last in the AL East.
This Sept. 22, 2012 file photo shows fans standing in front of the Green Monster scoreboard during On Field Photo Day at Fenway Park in Boston before a baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. All the baseball teams are based in major U.S. cities and many of the stadiums are situated in bustling downtown areas with engrossing things to do and savory places to eat when you aren’t attending a game. These attractions should help the cause of baseball fans trying to recruit a spouse or other traveling teammates who may not appreciate the sublime pleasures of the game.
