OAKLAND — An Oakland man accused of assaulting his girlfriend and knocking her dog unconscious during a domestic dispute Saturday is facing multiple charges, according to police.

Corey Hall, 28, is accused of animal cruelty, domestic violence assault and obstructing the report of a crime, Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert said Wednesday.

Prior to assaulting the woman, Hall punched the adult dog, described as a pit bull, and threw the animal against the wall, knocking it unconscious, Stubbert said. When police arrived, the dog was walking around the residence and did not require a trip to a veterinarian despite police making an offer to do so.

Stubbert said police don’t believe the dog was aggressive toward Hall. The woman had minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital.

Hall’s bail conditions prohibit him from returning to the residence or having any contact with the woman.

“We felt pretty confident leaving the dog there because we knew he’d have bail conditions not to return to the residence,” Stubbert said.

Hall was brought to Kennebec County Jail and later released on bail. He faces up to a year in prison on each charge.

Hall is scheduled to be arraigned at Waterville District Court on April 16.
