FARMINGTON — A Wilton man pleaded guilty Thursday in Franklin County Superior Court to furnishing morphine and received a three-year suspended sentence and two years of probation.

Scott Kidder, 32, was one of five people arrested in February on felony drug charges related to the death of a Farmington woman.

The charges were brought after the Farmington Police Department investigation, led by Sgt. Edward Hastings, into the death of Marilyn Rider, 52, of Farmington. Rider died from an apparent drug overdose Nov. 11 at her home at 103 Silver Maple Lane.

If the case had gone to trial, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews told the court the state would have shown that Kidder attended a birthday party in Wilton on Nov. 10 where the drug was used by Rider and others and that Kidder purchased some from a local source and shared it.

Although Justice Michaela Murphy accepted the plea agreement that also bars Kidder from use and possession of drugs or alcohol and imposes a $400 fine.

Kidder is currently serving two years for a probation violation.

Murphy encouraged him to seek help while at the Department of Corrections for what Andrews called an extensive drug problem.
