WILTON — Residents are being warned never give personal information over the phone, after a local woman received a scam call and reported it to the Police Department.

The woman received a call from the number 661-748-0240 and was told that because she did a great job on her taxes, she would get $6,000 but she needed to send $100 first, Chief Heidi Wilcox said. The woman was asked for personal information, which she refused to give.

Police asked people to share the story with friends and relatives so they would not be scammed. They reminded residents again to never give out personal information over the phone.

The phone numbers may vary because they are using Skype and a Skype identification number shows up, making it difficult to trace or identify, Wilcox said.
