DIXFIELD — The RSU 10 Superintendent Search Committee began reviewing six applications Thursday afternoon.

Four applicants are from Maine, one is from New Hampshire and one is from Massachusetts, Committee Co-chairman Jerry Wiley said. All are men, he said.

On July 1, Superintendent Tom Ward will take the helm at RSU 9 in Farmington, after leading RSU 10 for four years and SAD 21 for six.

The Maine School Management Association, which is assisting with the search, forwarded the applications to the committee. Wiley said receiving six at a time when there are an estimated 20 openings for superintendents in Maine is a good amount.

After reviewing the applications, the committee will decide who to interview and possibly begin that work the week of April 22-26. The committee plans to meet next week.

RSU 10 includes the towns of Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Peru, Byron, Roxbury, Mexico, Rumford, Buckfield, Sumner, Hartford, and Hanover. The student population is about 2,800.
