RUMFORD — Mountain Valley High School Principal Matt Gilbert announced Students of the Term at a school-wide assembly.

The freshman recipient was Alex Ridley. His brother, Scott Nicols, gave him a congratulatory hug on stage. Their mother, Joanne Martin, and grandmother, Brenda Nickerson, also joined them.

The anonymous teacher who nominated him wrote, “Alex is an all around great kid. He is always happy and works hard in class. He also gets extra help if needed.”

Adele Oswald was chosen from the sophomore class. Her family met her on stage including brother Austin, father Carl, mother Annette Nash and stepfather Gary Nash.

“Adelle is a great student who works hard and is a pleasure to have in class. She is nice to everyone and is always smiling!” Gilbert announced from her nomination paper.

Junior Shawn Bennett represented the junior class and his mother, Kathy Larsen; grandmother, Barbara Larsen; and brother, Ryan Bennett, were on hand to congratulate him.

According to his nominating teacher, “Shawn works really hard to do well in school. His efforts to learn material and be prepared for assessments go above and beyond many of his peers. He has a great attitude and is enjoyable to work with.”

Finally, senior Autum Koch rounded out the students honored. Her parents Peter and Laura Koch joined her on stage.

“She is a kind, sweet, humble person. She is an excellent role model for her peers as well as for her younger sisters,,” wrote her nominating teacher. “She works hard to obtain good grades and is not intimidated about getting help when she needs to. I have enjoyed having Autum in class this year, she is an asset to our classroom environment.”

The students received a MVHS T-shirt and a gift certificate for Dunkin Donuts.

Every nine weeks, teachers at MVHS select a student from each class to honor.

Gilbert concluded, “I thank all these parents, grandparents and brothers. You are an important part of your student’s success and the reason for them being outstanding.”
