AUBURN — Funeral services honoring the life of TMC Charles A. “Mac” McKenney, USN, Ret., were held Tuesday at the First Universalist Church with Pastor Arthur Cotton presiding and who is a personal family friend of the McKenney’s. During the service, Mac’s grandson, Jon and his wife, Annette McKenney recited poetry as did close friend, Samantha Joyce that was written by Mac’s mother, Winifred. Following Mac’s favorite hymns, “Amazing Grace,” “In the Garden,” and the “Navy Hymn” played by organist Phil House, the U.S. Navy Honor Detail played “taps” and presented our country’s flag to Mac’s wife, Goldie in recognition of her husband’s 33 year career with the U.S. Navy. At the conclusion of the service, all in attendance were invited to a reception of fellowship in the church hall. Pallbearers were William N., Charles A., Michael K., Jon M., Jon E., Michael S. McKenney as well as Matthew J. Morin and Larry J. Ferek. Burial will be held privately in the McKenney family plot at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Auburn later in the spring.
