SOUTH PARIS — Anna Winslow belted a pair of home runs and drove in three runs while Crystal West also went deep, drove in four runs and pitched a four-hit shutout to lead Oxford Hills to a 13-0 opening day win over Mt. Blue in KVAC softball action on Wednesday.

West, Winslow and Abby Bernier (double) finished with three hits apiece to lead the Vikings’ 15-hit onslaught. Jordyn Sanborn added two hits.

West struck out six and walked three to pick up the win in the circle. Destiny Nelson had the only extra base hit off of her, a double.

Medomak Valley 6, Leavitt 3

WALDOBORO — Medomak valley managed only four hits against Leavitt pitcher Michelle Morin, but took advantage of four walks — including three in the fourth inning — and two errors to post a 6-3 win over the Hornets in a KVAC softball matchup Wednesday.

Taylor Simmons had a double for the Panthers (1-0), and Lauren Guptil had two RBI. Desiree Benner fanned eight and walked only two to earn the victory.

Sarah Pare and Morgan Knowlton had two hits each for Leavitt (0-1).

Skowhegan 8, Lewiston 2

LEWISTON — Shelby Obert went 3-for-3 with two walks and five runs scored to lead Skowhegan to an 8-2 win over Lewiston in both teams’ KVAC opener Wednesday.

Taylor Johnson cracked two singles and drove in four runs for the Indians, who touched Lewiston pitching for 11 hits.

Kaithlyn Therriault sturck out six and scatters seven hits and five walks to pick up the win for Skowhegan. Good defense and strikeout helped her escape a jam in the sixth inning to preserve what was a 5-2 lead at the time.

Lauren Belleau drove in both Lewiston runs with a two-run single in the second. Erica Brochu had two hits for the Blue Devils.

Baseball

Leavitt 8, Medomak Valley 4

WALDOBORO – Drew Gosselin, Levi Morin and Josh Dailey each had two hits and drove in a run to lead Leavitt to an 8-4 win over Medomak Valley in KVAC varsity baseball Wednesday.

Mitchell Davis piitched five innings and struck out six while allowing just three runs in the win. Nicholas Depatsy had a hit and drove in two runs for the Panthers.

Messalonskee 7, Edward Little 3

AUBURN —  Messalonskee took advantage of four Edward Little errors and Patrick Breton and Jake Dexter combined to scatter nine hits as Messalonskee opened defense of its Class A baseball title with a 7-3 victory on Wednesday.

Breton was able to limit the damage by allowing just one walk through six innings before Dexter finished it off with a scoreless seventh. Dexter led the Messalonskee offense with two hits.

Mike Hammond collected two hits, including a double, and scored twice for EL. John Simpson also had two hits. Nate Pushard struck out seven in six innings of work for the Eddies.

Bates, USM split
GORHAM —  Bates scored four runs in the top of the eighth in game two to salvage a doubleheader split with the University of Maine in non-conference softball action Wednesday.
AnnaMarie Martino’s double drove in the winning run for Bates (7-11).  KelseyFreedman scattered seven hits in eighth innings to earn the win.
Southern Maine defeated Bates 5-4 in the opener and then fell 5-2 in eight innings in the second game.
Stefanie Stockwell and Kristen Duross each hit home runs in support of strong pitching effort from Jesse Hutchins to help the Huskies (6-24) win game one.
Husson sweeps MMA
BANGOR — Amanda Ryan and Kayla Merrill combined to toss a four-inning perfect game in game two of Husson’s doubleheaders sweep over Maine Maritime Academy. Husson won game one 7-2, then 9-0 in the nightcap.
Ryan pitched a perfect three innings, then Merrill came in in the fourth to complete Ryan’s work. Lona Sargent had three RBIs and scored twice for the Eagles (21-8).
Women’s lacrosse
Thomas 18, Husson 10
Bangor — Thomas scored six unanswered goals early in the second half to break a 6-6 tie and pull away from Husson for an 18-10 victory in NAC women’s lacrosse action.
Caitlyn Stauffer scored five goals in the first half to put the Eagles within reach. Miranda Tinsman led Thomas with seven goals.
St. Joe’s 19, U St. Joseph 12
PORTLAND — Ten different players scored for Saint Joseph’s in a 19-12 victory over the University of St. Joseph in womne’s lacrosse action Wednesday.
Anneka Adame led the attack with four goals. Sophomore Kirstin McCombs registered three goals and two assists.
Men’s lacrosse
USM 10, Plymouth St. 7
GORHAM — Chris Annunciata  broke a tie game with a pair of goals in the late stages of the third quarter as Plymouth State topped the University of Southern Maine, 10-7, in a men’s lacrosse game Wednesday.
Zach Frank led the Panthers’ offense with his three goals and two assists. Kyle Baker had four goals and an assist for the Huskies.
Baseball
St. Joe’s 8, Colby 2
WATERVILLE — Alex Valenti pitched seven strong innings and Willie Brown had a pair of hits, drove in a run and scored as St. Joseph’s College secured an 8-2 win over Colby College in non-conference baseball action Wednesday.Valenti struck out three, walked one, and allowed two earned runs. Joe Coyne added a pair of singles to go with a home run, scored twice, and drove in three runs.
Jake Kramer led Colby with two hits and one RBI.
