Also there’s another gentleman from Greene, Leo Landry, 754-7968, and the folks that owned the Sewing Network in Auburn are still servicing machines. You can drop them off at Bear Necessities, 35 Vernon St., across from Pat’s Pizza in Auburn. — Sewist in Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: One more thing that hasn’t been mentioned concerning Nick, the White Russian who used to be around the Norway area. He was a typewriter repairman. — No Name via email

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My mother used to give rides to the White Russian in her 1933 Chevrolet in the 1950s. The White Russian lived on Pigeon Hill (Route 26 area). He always wore his cap sideways and had on big mittens.

He was a gentleman and never bothered anybody. He’d never ask for rides but would accept them.

Not many people knew that he was proficient at repairing typewriters. — George Herrick, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For Roger Dupre (April 8) and his question about cats seeing themselves in mirrors, I had a half-grown black kitten from a litter of gray kittens.

At Christmas a full length mirror was beside the Christmas tree. When the black kitten saw the “other” black kitten in the mirror, he bristled all up and spat and hissed at the other cat. He not only saw it he reacted to it. It was hilarious to watch. — Anita, Monmouth
