AUBURN — Volunteers are being sought to help collect trash and clean up the area around Lake Auburn on Saturday morning.

Lee Morin, territorial sales manager for Pepsi Beverages Co. of Auburn, said the company is sponsoring the cleanup effort with the Androscoggin Bassmasters fishing club.

“We’re going to clean up and down Route 4, then up Lake Shore Drive to North Auburn and then Holbrook Road up by the basin,” Morin said.

The effort is expected to bring out 20 to 30 volunteers from Pepsi and another 30 from the fishing club.

Other volunteers interested in participating should meet at the Lake Auburn boat launch on Route 4 at 8 a.m. They will be given trash bags and sent out.

The group is meeting back at the boat launch at noon for a pizza lunch.

The cleanup is part of Pepsi Supports Surrounding Towns, an annual company effort to help collect trash and litter. In the past five years, the local Pepsi bottler has sponsored similar cleanup efforts in Lewiston, Hermon and Brownfield.

“We’re just picking up trash, clearing brush and that sort of thing,” Morin said. “But mainly, we’re looking for trash around the Lake Auburn watershed, making sure it doesn’t get into the water supply.”
